How we choose hotels

Every property on Kerala Escapes goes through a verification process before we recommend it. Here's exactly what that looks like.

Verified relationship

We only recommend properties we have a direct relationship with — contacted, confirmed live rates, and ideally visited by our team or a trusted partner. We don't just pull from OTA databases.

Real photos, confirmed rights

Every listed property has real photos we've confirmed rights to use — sourced from the hotel or taken by us. No misleading stock images, no scraped thumbnails.

Honest rating context

We display Google ratings as an attributed reference point, not as our own recommendation score. A hotel with 4.6 on Google gets shown as "4.6 on Google" — never implying we conducted the review.

Fit over stars

A 3-star property that's perfect for families might be a better recommendation than a 5-star that doesn't match. We shortlist for fit, not category.

Agent note

Every published property has a genuine first-person note from our team — why we'd send a specific type of traveller here, what the trade-off is, what to know before you book.

What we don't do

  • We don't accept payment from hotels to be featured or ranked higher
  • We don't fabricate reviews or manufacture sentiment
  • We don't publish pages for properties we haven't verified — they stay off the public site
  • We don't use affiliate links that create incentives to push certain OTAs

The verified-inventory gate

Our database starts with a research list of hotels across Kerala. A property only becomes a public recommendation — with an indexed page — once it passes our verification steps: relationship confirmed, photos from the property (not scraped from aggregators), agent note written, and photo rights confirmed. Until then, the hotel exists in our back-end but not as a live, findable page.
